Yorgos Lanthimos and Tony McNamara are the directors and writers of the 2023 movie Poor Things. Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Christopher Abbott, Ramy Youssef, and Jerrod Carmichael are among the actors who star in it. The story, which is based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel, centers on Bella Baxter, a young lady in Victorian London who commits suicide and is later brought back to life by a scientist, setting off on a journey of self-discovery.

On September 1, 2023, Poor Things made its world premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it took home the Golden Lion. Searchlight Pictures released it on December 8, 2023 in the United States and January 12, 2024 in Ireland and the United Kingdom. The movie has made $68 million worldwide and was ranked among the top 10 films of 2023 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute. In addition to winning two Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Stone, it was nominated in eleven categories for the 77th British Academy Film Awards and the 96th Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Film.
