Zoya Akhtar is the director of the 2023 Indian Hindi adolescent musical comedy film The Archies. She co-produced the movie with Sharad Devarajan under Graphic India and Reema Kagti under Tiger Baby Films. The live-action version of this movie is based on the fictional rock group “The Archies,” which made an appearance in the 1960s animated series The Archie Show, which used characters from Archie Comics. Starring in the movie are Yuvraj Menda, Aditi “Dot” Saigal, Aditya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, and Aditya Nanda.

Archie, Betty, Ronnie, Reggie, Jughead, Ethel, Dilton, Moose, and Midge fight to defend the historically significant “Green Park,” which is about to be destroyed in this fictitious Riverdale, India, Anglo-Indian village from 1964.

Preceding Akhtar’s official announcement in November 2021 as the film’s director and producer, The Archies has been in development since March 2018. The Archies was shot in two concurrent schedules across Ooty, Mauritius, and Mumbai from April to December 2022, following a thorough pre-production and casting procedure. The original soundtrack was composed by Jim Satya and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and the film’s cinematography was handled by Nikos Andritsakis. Together with Ankur Tewari, The Islanders, and Saigal, the former also wrote the songs.

The Archies debuted on November 22, 2023, at the 54th International Film Festival of India. On December 7, 2023, the movie was made available on Netflix. Critics gave it varying ratings.
