The Fall Guy is an American action comedy film from 2024 that was written and directed by David Leitch. It is partially based on the stunt performer TV series from the 1980s. It centers on a stuntman who gets entangled in a plot involving the movie’s main actor while working on his ex-girlfriend’s directorial debut action picture. Starring in the movie with Ryan Gosling are Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Teresa Palmer, Stephanie Hsu, Hannah Waddingham, and Winston Duke.

Hollywood stunt performer Colt Seavers serves as Tom Ryder, a well-known action star, stunt double. But after a disastrous stunt leaves Colt with serious injuries, he gives up on his career and his relationship with camerawoman Jody Moreno.

Tom’s film producer Gail Meyer gets in touch with Colt, who is now a valet at a small Mexican restaurant, eighteen months later. Colt is informed by Gail that Moreno is directing Metalstorm, an epic science fiction movie, and that Colt is invited to participate in the Sydney, Australia shoot. Colt finds out upon arriving on set that Jody never requested him and is still upset about their separation. Gail discloses that Tom vanished following his drug-related involvement, and she urges Colt to locate him before his disappearance results in the movie’s cancellation. Colt goes to Tom’s hotel room and a nightclub, where he gets into fights, not wanting to ruin Jody’s first time directing. Colt discovers a dead body in an ice-filled bathtub in the hotel room. Colt discovers the body is gone when he and the police return.

Colt and Jody start dating again while Metalstorm is still being produced, but Gail abruptly tells Colt that he has to go back to the States. Rather, Colt finds his PA Alma Milan and keeps searching for Tom. People searching for a phone that belongs to Tom and is in Alma’s possession attack both of them. After a protracted chase through Sydney that involves a garbage truck, Colt overcomes them. Colt opens Tom’s apartment phone with his friend Dan Tucker, who is Metalstorm’s stunt coordinator. They come across a video showing an inebriated Tom unintentionally killing his former stuntman Henry. Colt and Dan are attacked by the henchman, who use shotgun pellets to destroy the phone.

Dan manages to get away, but Colt gets caught and confronted by Tom, who has been hiding out on a yacht per Gail’s orders. Tom says that Gail is utilizing deepfake technology to replace Tom’s face on the incriminating footage with Colt’s in order to frame Colt for the crime. Tom also says that he planned the “accidents” that happened to Henry and Colt. While the manipulated video is made public and Henry’s body is found, Gail is trying to persuade Jody that Colt is guilty. After a boat chase, Colt manages to get away and is thought to be dead, but he swims to safety.

The production moves forward when Tom and his henchmen show up at the Metalstorm set the following day. Returning covertly to the set, Colt persuades Jody of his innocence. All of them lure Tom into taking part in a prank in which he is hooked up to a microphone and is tricked into confessing. Dan leads the rest of the group in holding off his goons. Colt is able to jump aboard the chopper in midair with Jody’s assistance when Gail tries to flee on a helicopter after stealing the video at gunpoint. Colt gets the tape and collapses into a crash mat that Dan has set up. Tom calls someone while standing close to sensitive explosives, which prompts the police to blow him up when they come. Jason Momoa plays the lead in the San Diego Comic Con premiere of Metalstorm, which goes on to become a big hit. After Colt’s innocence is established, he and Jody reconcile.

A montage of real behind-the-scenes footage from the actual stuntwork that went into filming the movie is shown in the end credits of the movie.

On March 12, 2024, The Fall Guy made his SXSW debut. On May 3, Universal Pictures distributed the film in the US. Critics gave it mostly excellent reviews, and it broke the record for the most automobile rolls ever with a Guinness World Record.
