1. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)

Under his own production company, Dharma Productions, director, producer, and writer Karan Johar released the 2016 Indian Hindi-language musical romantic drama film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which translates to “O Heart, It Is Difficult.” The film features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, and Ranbir Kapoor in prominent roles.

2. Bareilly Ki Barfi

Based on Nicolas Barreau’s novel The Ingredients of Love, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s 2017 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy Bareilly Ki Barfi (transl. Bareilly’s Barfi) is a work of romantic comedy. Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Kriti Sanon play the key characters, while Pankaj Tripathi and Seema Pahwa provide supporting turns. The film was widely praised by critics when it was first released in theaters in India on August 18, 2017, which happened to be Independence Day Weekend. Rao’s acting was particularly praised for the film. Along with being a commercial success, it ran for more than 70 days in both India and overseas, earning over ₹60 crore (US$7.5 million) at the box office despite having a budget of ₹20 crore (US$2.5 million).

3. Aashiqui 2

The 2013 Indian Hindi-language romantic musical drama film Aashiqui 2 (transl. “Romance 2) was directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar under the banners of Vishesh Films and T-Series Films. Mahesh Bhatt acted as presenter. The film, which is a spiritual sequel to the 1990 musical Aashiqui, stars Salil Acharya in a cameo role alongside Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles, with Shaad Randhawa and Mahesh Thakur in supporting roles. The film, which is set in the early 2010s, is about the stormy romantic connection between Rahul Jaykar, a failed singer, and Aarohi Keshav Shirke, an aspiring vocalist. Rahul’s temperamental problems and alcohol consumption are major factors in this relationship.

4. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

The 2013 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (literally, “This Youth is Crazy”) was directed by Ayan Mukerji, written by Mukerji and Hussain Dalal, edited by Akiv Ali, and produced by Karan Johar under the banner of Dharma Productions. Alongside Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur, it stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in their second film together after Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008).

5. Ram Leela

Raasleela Goliyon Ki Ram-Leela, also referred to as Ram-Leela (transl. A Dance of Bullets: Ram-Leela), is a 2013 Indian romantic tragedy film that was written and directed in Hindi by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Bhansali also composed the film’s original music. Priyanka Chopra makes a cameo appearance in the song “Ram Chahe Leela,” and Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh play the film’s key characters. Bhansali and Kishore Lulla of Eros International jointly produced the picture. Based on William Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Ram-Leela tells the story of the star-crossed lovers from two competing criminal families who fall in love but are forced apart by their families’ long-standing enmity.

6. Titanic

Titanic is a 1997 American epic romantic disaster movie. It was directed, written, and co-produced by James Cameron. The movie is about the 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic. It stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.

On April 15, 1912, the British passenger and mail ship RMS Titanic, owned by White Star Line, capsized in the North Atlantic Ocean after running afoul of an iceberg on her inaugural trip from Southampton, England, to New York City, USA. Approximately 1,500 of the 2,224 passengers and crew members were thought to have perished, making it the deadliest ship sinking at the time. Not only did the accident garner public notice, it also led to significant modifications in maritime safety laws and other creative creations.

7. The Royal Treatment

American romantic comedy The Royal Treatment, written and directed by Rick Jacobson in 2022, stars Holly Hester. Starring with Laura Marano is Izzy, a Manhattan hairstylist who gets invited to work at Prince Thomas’s wedding (played by Mena Massoud).

The Royal Treatment was the most-watched movie on Netflix for the week after its January 20, 2022, release. Critics did, however, give it bad reviews. Most of the cast, excluding Massoud, Marano, Jay Simon, and Paul Norell, are native of New Zealand, where the film was shot.

8. Love at First Sight

The 2023 American romantic comedy film Love at First Sight, which was written and directed by Vanessa Caswill, is based on Jennifer E. Smith’s 2011 novel The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. Starring are Sally Phillips, Rob Delaney, Ben Hardy, Dexter Fletcher, Haley Lu Richardson, and Jameela Jamil. The movie debuted on September 15, 2023, on Netflix.

9. The Perfect Find

American love comedy The Perfect Find, directed by Numa Perrier and written by Leigh Davenport, was released in 2023. It is based on Tia Williams’ book of the same name. Starring in the movie with Gabrielle Union are Gina Torres, D. B. Woodside, Aisha Hinds, Keith Powers, and La La Anthony.

On June 14, 2023, The Perfect Find made its global debut at the Tribeca Festival. On June 23, 2023, Netflix distributed the film.
